The Black Crochet Group

A Community Stitched with Love, Culture, and Creativity

The Black Crochet Group was born out of a simple idea: creating a space where Black crocheters could come together, uplift one another, and share in the joy of fiber arts without feeling overlooked or unseen. When I started this group, I wasn’t just thinking about crochet—I was thinking about community.

In the world of crochet, representation matters. Too often, Black crafters find themselves in spaces where their voices aren’t amplified, their artistry isn’t fully appreciated, and their contributions to the fiber arts world are overlooked. I wanted to change that. I envisioned a space where we could celebrate our culture, our skills, and our love for crochet together—where beginners and experts alike could come, learn, teach, and grow.

What started as an online group quickly became a movement. We’re more than just a crochet community—we are a family of makers, creators, and entrepreneurs, pushing the boundaries of what crochet means to us. From sharing patterns and techniques to hosting live tutorials, selling handmade goods, and even giving back to our communities, The Black Crochet Group is a space where creativity flourishes and connections are built, one stitch at a time.

Meet the Founder

My name is Crystal Manning, and art has always been a huge part of who I am, always drawing, painting, and dabbling in new mediums. Crochet started as a hobby—something therapeutic when times were dark, something grounding. But over time, it became so much more. Crochet became my form of expression, my way of connecting with my heritage, and a tool to build something greater than myself.

As a Black crocheter, I often felt the absence of spaces where people like me were centered, where our artistry and voices were given the spotlight they deserved. Instead of waiting for that space to appear, I decided to create it myself.

With every stitch, I am reminded of the power of community, the beauty of tradition, and the endless possibilities that crochet offers. I am beyond grateful to be part of a group that continues to grow, inspire, and uplift one another. Whether you are picking up a hook for the first time or have been crocheting for years, you belong here.

Together, we are weaving a legacy—one stitch, one pattern, one creation at a time.

Welcome to The Black Crochet Group.
